Grass Seed Fields After Harvest

Grass Seed (both annual and perennial) is the predominant crop in the lower elevation portions of the Western Muddy Creek Watershed.

This panoramic photo was taken just after grass seed harvest in late July, 1996. The gravel road runs North/South, and the East/West paved road is Lewellyn. The buildings visible to the Southwest are part of the Varrell processing plant. Sheep are grazing in the field to the West. We also took a panoramic photo of the Grass Seed Fields During Harvast

Note the large uninterrupted vistas, characteristic of grass seed farming. The presence of vegetation other than grass seed increases the risk of contamination of the crop. Such "uncertified seed" sells for a small fraction of the price of the certified variety.
