Abstract:



	A grid of slope values at 99ft. cell center separation, UTM projections, zone 10.



Purpose:



       This map provides a generalized charaterization of landform steepness in 
		the study area.

     Western Muddy Creek watershed, Benton County, Oregon.



Procedures:



		1 : 24,000 USGS topographic maps were scanned at 150 dpi to provide a background
		image from which contour lines and spot elevations were screen digitized in macGIS.
		macGIS "differentiate average" was run on the 99ft altitude layer. Despite the
		documentation in the version 2.0.4 macGIS manual, this produces a map of percentage slope.
		In other words, the rise over run is calculated using the cells immediately adjacent to the target
		cell in each of four cardinal directions. The average of these values is multiplied by 100.

		Note that this method produced spurious values along the boundary of the study area. Also,
		note that the slopes are heavily biased by the locations of contour lines on the
		original quad sheets.  
		
		The resultant grid uses the folowing classification:

			1		1% - 4%
			2		5% - 10%
			3		11% - 15%
			4		16% - 21%
			5		> 21%
